SECOND DAY’S PLAY
PROGRESS DESPITE RAIN
SECTION LEADERS NAMED
Despite the delays caused yesterday by the morning’s rain, the Gisborne and Bast Coast Bowling Centre's tournament for the Peace Shield was pushed along to tho close of section play, and the leading rinks were nominated for postsection play, which was to start this morning. The games in the second round were played to 14 heads, owing to the necessity of completing the sectional play before the light failed. A happy feature of tho tournament has been the co-operative spirit of the various rinks, and under the disappointing conditions yesterday, this spirit was exemplified in “a particularly gratifying manner, every participant in tne fixture doing his utmost to assist the officials of the centre, and to ensure visiting rinks a good opportunity of seeing out the competition.,Two of the visiting rinks were among those {which qualified for post-section play, the'survivors after yesterday’s play being J. W. H. Holmes (Gisborne), S. McKenzie (Poverty Bay), D. G. Robertson (Poverty Bay), J. S'. Allan (Gisborne), Short (Opotiki), Thompson (Tokomaru Bay), and J. E. Newton (Kahutia). The first round of postsection play was to take place this morning, Holmes meeting Allan, Short meeting Thompson, and Robertson meeting Newton, while S. McKenzie held the bve.
