CRICKET DELAYED

A lengthy ilrv .spell was broken late yesterday "afternoon by unexpected heavy rain which surprised picnic parties and interrupted sports fixtures. Changed conditions followed, the temperature being 88 degrees in the shade by 9 a.m. to-day. Nearly an inch of rain has fallen. The weather is still very unsettled, and rain is again tailing. The. resumption of the Hawke Cup cricket was delayed till noon, and the howling centre’s tourney was. similarly delayed.
RAIN AT AUCKLAND
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Lain, driven by a. hard northerly wind, fell in Auckland yesterday afternoon. and was sufficient to mar the enjoyment of the day. This morning it rained steadily for several hours, but at midday had erased, and the sky was brightening.
SOUTHLAND BEN EDITS
(Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. After one of the driest Decembers on record, splendid rain has fallen over the greater part of Southland. The downpour started late yesterday afternoon and continued throughout the night, greatly benefiting pastures.
STORM AT WANOANUI.
(Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. Heavy rain, punctuated by thunder and vivid lightning, continued at intervals since early this morning.
All sports have been abandoned, and riany campers in tents were flooded out.
