SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE
CUSTOMS AND SALES TAX GISBORNE IMPROVEMENT STATISTICS FOR 1934 Revenue from Customs duty and sales tax in Gisborno during the past year showed a substantial increase as compared with that of the previous year, and to a lesser degree there was an improvement also in the revenue derived from beer duty. In customs duty the increase amounted to £6326, the total for the year being £35,009, as compared with £28,683 in 1933, and £28,735 in 1932. Beer duty totalled £9732, as against £B7OB, an increase of £1024. In the case of sale tax revenue this form of taxation did not come into force until February of last year, so that it is impossible to compare tne returns accurately. For the 11-months of last year, however, the total revenue from the sales tax was £8907, while for the 12 months of last year the total was £12,766. The tables published below give the monthly revenue totals. Shillings and pence have been omitted from the figures for each month, but are included in the totals for the respective vears.
