MOTOR CAMPERS
CROWDS AT THE BEACH
FACILITIES
The many amenities and attractions offered by the Waikanae Beach motor camp iiav’e been enjoyed by a great number of touring motorists during the past few 'weeks, and judging from the patronage which the camp has received already this season it would appear that the camping holiday is even more popular than in past years. Hundreds of visitors from all parts of New Zealand have passed through borne during the holidays, and mwy hundreds more are expected, for Jjpnary is the favored month for the annual
vacation. Cars bearing number plates indicating that they belong to other centres of New Zealand have been almost as common a sight as those bearing Gisborne numbers, and fresh arrivals daily take the place of those who break camp and depart for other resorts in the course of their tours.
There? hag been a continual, stream of tourists through Gisborne since before Christmas, but the number of visitors is even greater just now than it was durthe actual Christmas holidays, and there is a great deal of traffic on all roads. Tho Coast has come in for its share of tourist traffic this year, due largely to tho attractions offered at Te Puia Springs, where the accommodation for visitors has been taxed to the utmost
THE MOTOR CAMPS Visitors to the new motor camp provided by the Borough Council in collaboration with the Automobile Association at the Park racecourse property have been greatly impressed with the attractiveness of the camp and the facilities offered, and when the new camp becomes more generally known amongst tourists ' ft will no doubt become a very popular resort. This new ground will take the place of the Victoria Domain camping j ground, which was to be closed to-day. I The Victoria Domain camp has received a fair amount of patronage during the holidays, but the amenities there tall far short of those afforded at the Park.
In to-day’s glorious summer weather the Waikanae Beach motor camp tyas a happy community, and the opportunities offered for sea bathing, tennis, and other recreations were being enjoyed to the full, the provision made for the amusement of the children being particularly welcome to parents who find the congested .space offered by the portable camp too cramped for youngsters in Miday mood in search of exercise and entertainment.
There were many parties of campers ! in residence at the beach this morning, and the names of those who signed the register at the office, most of whom were accompanied by large or small parties, were as follow: —Mr. Feilden, Messrs. Crawford and Price, Mr. Esplin, Mr. | Charlosworth, and Mr. Fraser, Wellington ; Mr. Mudgieway, Te Aroha; Mr. Ormiston, Dannevjrke; Mr. Stead, Waitara; Mr. Baldwin, Taumarunui; Mr. Patterson, Auckland; Mr. Stein, Mr. Lannigan, and Mr. Patterson, Gisborne.
