GISBORNE CHALLENGE

With excellent chances of bringing the Hawke Cup back to Gisbfcme, the mam body of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association’s representative team for the Hawke Cup challenge match against Manawatu left Gisborne by special service car this' 'afternoon. Under the management of Mr. H. F. Forster, eight players departed this afternoon, and the remaining four, who have been taking part in the Auckland Country Week competition, will leave Auckland tomOi'Vow morning. ' The match will be played at l almerston North on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so that the Poverty Bay team will have ample time to recover from their journey before play commences. The team will be selected on tile ground from the following 12 players: G. N. Lockett, M. K. Boon, f> Beeves, G. L. Winter, J. W. Blathwayt, G, J. Robertson, C. Fraser, M. Sharp. P. H. Dow, K'. H. Dow, E. James, and D. A. Wells. P. and E. Dow, James and Wells are the four players who have bean taking part in the Country Week tournament, which ends to-day. The final selection of the team will be made by Mr. 'Forster, and Lockett and Boon, captain ancl vice-captain respectively. The players were given a rousing sendoff when the service car left Gisborne early this afternoon, and the best wishes of a large gathering of cricket enthusiasts were extended to them, three cheers being given as the car moved off.
