PARASITES’ PARADISE
SOCIALISM IN HULL
GASH DISTRIBUTIONS
LONDON. Dec. 20
“The city of Hull has become a miniature Soviet republic owing to Socialists capturing the municipality at the November elections.”
This statement is made by the Daily Mail which adds:—
“The Socialists are making the city a paradise of parasites. “They immediately reconstituted the committee administering transitional benefit to unemployment, who had exhausted their dole.
“Whereas, the previous committee carefully weighed the cases, the Socialists are revising them at the rato of 900 daily, and spending £2OOO weekly.
“This resulted in a shortage of local funds, the Administrator of which sent an S.O.S. to London". “The Minister for Labor demanded an explanation, and threatened to appoint, a special official unless the Socialists mended their ways.
“The Socialists then further speeded up the methods in order to advantage applicants as much as possible before the new scale of benefits is introduced in January.
“In some cases they are paying 17s weekly to the uneriipioyed member -of a family earning nearly £8 a week. “There are many instances of similar recklessness, which is estimated fo cost the city £IOO,OOO, equivalent to a rate of Gd in the £ on top of the present 18s Id. in the £.”
