Hills on three sides of Reefton wore ablaze with bracken and fern fires a few days ago, and the town was enveloped in smoke. Fern, blackberry, and broom on most of the hillsides in the Inangahua valley was burning fiercely. Though covered by a pail of smoke the town of Reefton was quite safe.
