POET. OFJHSBOBNE The Wainui is to load for Napier and Gisborne, leaving Dunedin on January 8. working Oainaru and Timaru on January 9, Lyttelton on January 10, thence Wellington. The vessel is due at Gisborne about Tuesday, January 15. Carrying a record number of people, 2300, the Union Company’s turbo-elec-tric steamer Kangatira made one of her most successful excursion trips to Picton on P>oxing Day. The weather was perfect from the time the vessel left Wellington until she returned, and the effects of the bright .sunshine were plainly visible on many of the travellers when they disembarked late in the afternoon. Coming back from Picton, the Ttnngatira made a very fast run of 2 hours 12 minutes, equalling her previous record time for the trip. Her average speed was 23.45 knots. The time from Tory Channel to Wellington Heads was 1 hour 8 minutes. The run to Picton was made in 2 hours 23 minutes at an average speed of 33.6 knots. This includes a slight delay when the vessel was leaving port. The Pukeko loads at Auckland cn Wednesday and Thursday next for Coast bays, Gisborne and Napier. She will discharge here on Saturday, January 5, and at Napier on the following Monday, returning then to Auckland to load again. The Awahou is at Wellington, where she will load on January 2 and Z for Napier and Gisborne. The vessel is. expected to work Napier on Friday night of next week and should arrive here on the Saturday. From Gisborne she proceeds to Lyttelton in order to load for Waikokopu, Gisborne and the Coast. The Margaret W will load at Auckland on Thursday next for Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay and Gisborne. She arrives here on January 5 and is to sail the same day for Auckland. The liner Adriatic (25,000 tons), built in 1906 for the White Star Line, has been sold to Japanese shipbreakers for £65,000.
