TOLAGA BAY NEWS

Members of the Presbyterian Sunday school were entertained at a delightful Christmas party, there being a large number of children, parishioners and friends present in the church. After the juniors had been provided with a sumptuous high tea, those present, accompanied by Mrs. C. Mackintosh on the organ, sang “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” “While Shepherds Sleep” and “Away in a Manger.” Recitations were given by June Higgs, Dawn Holder, Olive Rennie, Gordon Rennie, Hazel Hoskins and Jean Higgs. Later, a cantata, “The Spirit of Christmas," was performed, the parts being taken as follows : —Lonely Maiden, M. Fraser; Good Cheer, J. Milne; Rip Van Winkle, J. Rennie; Little Nell, M. Parkes; Priscilla, H. Hoskins; John Alden and Evangeline, R. Ross and M. Milne; Robin liood, B. Shaw. Father Christmas, who bore a great resemblance to Mr. C. Mackintosh, paid a visit and, assisted by Mrs. Mackintosh, gave every child a charming gift. At the supper interval the Rev. Mr. Way thanked the members who had assisted, and wished all the compliments of the season.

A jolly picnic was liejd for the pupils of the Mangahei School there being a record muster of children and adults. Games and races occupied the major portion of the afternoon and an enjoyable tea was (supplied by the ladies. A cedar tree had been beautifully decorated with seasonal emblems and weighed down with gifts. Mr. Milroy, chairman of the school committee, thanked the parents and friends for their valued assistance and presented each child with a gift. Last Friday members of the Tolagn Bay Women’s Institute held the December meeting when Mrs. Jvelly presided over a fair attendance. The prizes were, won as follows: —Christmas cake. —Mrs. 'Frank Lawrence. Christmas gift,—Mrs. Pickett, cushion. Collection of flowers.—Mrs. Sloan. Mr. Way gave an address about the north of Queensland, which was followed with interest and he was accorded a hearty vote, of thanks. A competition was won by Mrs. Kelly.
