HAWKE CUP CHALLENGE

NO FLAY AT NAPIER

The names of 12 players to travel south for the Hawke Cup Challenge match between Poverty Bay and the holders of the trophy were submitted to a special meeting of the management committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association last evening. Other matters in connection with the control of the gamo,, and the arrangements for the holiday season, were discussed at the meeting. The names of the players chosen for ihe trip were as follow:—G. N. Lockett, captain, M. lv. Boon, vicecaptain, J. W. Blathwayt, P. M. Dow, E. James, C. Fraser, D. Wells, G. L. Winter, M. Sharp, iS. Reeves, G. J. Robertson, and E. H. Dow. Mr. H. F. Forster was appointed manager ,of the team, and the linal selection of the eleven will bo made on the day of the match by the captain, vice-captain, find manager. The match will be played either at Palmerston North or New Plymouth, depending on the result of the first i Hawke Cup challenge match at mas between the present holders, Taranaki, and Manawatu. The team will leave Gisborne on the afternoon of December 29, and will return on January 4. In connection with the Hawke’s

Bay association’s request for Poverty bay to play a match against its representative team on route south or on the return journey, it was decided that owing to the fact that four of the members of the team will he playing in the Auckland count:y week tournament, it would be . impossible for the team to play in Hawke’s Bay. Mr. W. J. Jennings was appointed acting-secretary during the absence of the secretary, Mr. J. M. Kay, and a sub-committee comprising Messrs. Lockett, Boon, Forster, and Jennings was appointed to deal with any Hawke Cup matters arising during the holidays.

It was decided that the Thursday matches set down for last Thursday, and not played on account of the visit of the Duke of Gloucester, should be played ,on January There will be no Thursday play until that date.
