WAIKOHU COUNTY COUNCIL
THE MONTHLY MEETING The Waikolm County Council met today. There were present: Crs. A. A. Fraser, chairman, G. 11. Morice, H. Dods, J. Gardner, M. Doyle, and H. C. Boys. It was decided to take steps to raise a loan of £450 for a deviation on Bruce’s road.
Mr. Paul Teka wrote offering a royalty of l{d per pound for the right to cut cocksfoot on the Koranga road.—The offer was accepted.
Mr. G. G. Falkner wrote inquiring whether the council intended to do anything with regard to the repair of his bridge.—Tt was decided to erect, a notice at the bridge stating that, it was not the council’s property, and that the bridge was unsafe. It was also decided to advise Mr. Falkner that the council would not undertake repairs. Mr. A. 801 l wrote requesting that attention he given to Swainson’s ford. —It was reported that the work had been done already. The Conservator of Forests forwarded a statement showing £76 7s 8d available by way of “fifths’’ from the Ngatapa No. II Block and requested that a sehenie of expenditure he submitted for approval.- It was decided to submit a scheme for expenditure of the money on the road giving access to the mill. The Conservator of Forests also wrote stating that lie had inspected the road and considered that the council should schedule upon the Ttakauroa-Koranga section for expenditure of “fifths” from State Fowst 29—Ngatapa 11 Block.—The letter was received.
The district engineer, Publics Works Department, wrote requesting the council to forward a cheque for £7O, being the council's share of metalling to he done on the access road to S.G.R-,30. —It, was decided that the money should bo paid. The district engineer advised that the following item appeared on the supplementary estimates 1934-35: —"RakauroaTahora road, G2CO, £2 for £l. Authority was received from the Main Highways Board for expenditure of £77 13s 3d extra for regradinp of the highway in the Kuraka township. ENGINEER’S REPORT
The following report of work carried out in the comity for the month ended October 31 was made by the, engineer, Mr. A. G. Lucas :
“Motu riding.—Falls road : The contract. for the metalling of this road has been completed, a total of 318yds. having been spread and placed in dumps, some of which will be used on the footpaths in Motu township. Moanui road : the slips have been cleaned up. Motu highway: Tho maintenance metalling contract lias been completed, 13Q4 cub. yards having been spread. Koranga highway. At 2 miles a 4ft. culvert is being lengthened. The metal has been graded in. Waioeka highway : A contract has been let for the maintenance metalling, and the contractor will make a start next week. Ordinary maintenance has been attended to.
“Waihuka riding.—Oliver road : A man is still engaged opening up this road. Waihuka highway: Near 25 miles 155 cub. yds. of metal have been spread. The usual maintenance has been carried out.
“Mangatu riding.—Mangahamaia road : The grader is busy cleaning up this road in preparation for summer carting. Kaitara road : In all, 144 cub. yds. of shingle) have been spread. Ordinary maintenance has been attended to.
“Waipaoa riding.—Huiarua road: The men are still engaged cleaning up this road. River road : The top section of river road is in fair order. The surfaceman is still working on the lower section. Tarndale road: The surfaceman, with horses and scoop, put in a few days on the block cutting. Owing to seas.onal work less unemployed are now engaged. The work is still proceeding. Te Han bridge:'The towers have been re-erected and the ropes placed in position. A start, has been made filling in the approaches. Puha-Mangatu highway : Grading has been attended to. The usual maintenance has been carried out.
“Ngatapa riding.—The 10-chain deviation lias been completed and fenced and will be consolidated in time for the woolcfirting. Whnrekopae road • The maintenance contractor has made a start to clean up his section. Tahora-Te Wera road ; 'Flip grader has been used to put this section in order. Tanmata stock track: The maintenance contractor has been busy, getting this road in order. Tho bridge on Daisy Flat has been strengthened in preparation for the summer carting. Here highway i The contractor for the maintenance metalling has gone out lo the job. “Kannkannia riding. —Bruce’s road : The relief workers’ gang have been started on Wilson’s deviation. Morris’ crossing: A small willow groyne was built, at this crossing and the cutting regraded and widened. Swairison’s crossing : This crossing has boon nut in order. Kannknnaia highway : The deviation at 7 miles has been completed and the first course of metal laid; sufficient metal has been placed in a depot for I lie second course. I’htfis have been approved by I lie Ijnblic Works Department, for tho construction of two Groynes lo safeguard this portion of the highway. Maintenance has been attended 10.
“Ivaraka riding.—'Karaka highway: In all, 730 cub. yds. of screened shingle lias been spread, a distance of four miles being shingled. The contractor for reforming at 20 miles is making good progress. Grading and maintenance have been carried out,”
