Reports of earth tremors have b’een received from districts on the southern tablelands. At Gunning, a severe shock lasted for about 30 seconds. Houses were shaken and plaster fell from walls. Minor vibrations occurred during, the day, causing alarm among residents. People rushed from their homes at Avoca when a severe shock was felt there. Cracks 2i.n. wide appeared on the Ilumc highway, one of the main roads from Sydney to -Melbourne. Goulburn also experienced slight tremors.
