Au exchange records the death in •South Africa of the well-known Johannesburg architect and quantity surveyor, Mr. Bertram Richard Avery, which occurred early in September. Born at Nelson in 1872, he went to South Africa with the Ist New Zealand, Mounted Rifles in 1900, and subsequently served during the Anglo-Boer War as a lieutenant in the C.S.A.R. Engineer Corps,
