WHALE DAMAGES LAUNCH
CRAFT THROWN INTO AIR MAN SERIOUSLY HURT (I’er Press Association.) BLENHEIM, last night. A Tory Channel whaling party harpooned a huge right whale from the speed launch Cachelot. The mammal sounded, hut came up under the launch, throwing the craft high into the air, and starting a couple of planks, while the shock exploded a spare bomb in the launch. Mr Joseph I’erano, leader of the party, who was operating the harpoon gun right over the bombs, was seve-o’y injured, a large partytf his thigh and back muscles away. ‘ The harpoon line was hurriedly severed,' and the launch, in la sinking condition, made full speed for he beach, which was reached in the nick of time. Mr I'erano was removed to 7'ictou Hospital, where he was operated on. His condition is serious, but not grave. The other occupants of the launch are believed to have suffered minor •injuries, but the details are meagre.
