SIR APIRANA NGATA

AEAWA TRIBE CONFIDENCE UNSHAKEN The resignation of Sir Apirana Ngata from the Cabinet was discussed at a meeting of the Ngati Whakaue tribe, held at Ohinemutu. Mr Fini Haupapa presided, and the following resolution was passed: — “That the Prime Minister be apprised of the Arawa tribe’s unshakeable confidence in Sir Apirana Ngata, despite any criticism which may appear in the commission’s report, and notwithstanding his resignation from the Cabinet he will always the virtual leader of the Maori race. We, therefore, earnestly pray that the Prime Minister will consider the retention of his services as representative of the Maori race on the Executive Council.”

In a letter to Sir Apirana, Ngata, the chairman of the meeting says: ‘j. have much pleasure in remitting the following resolution unanimously acclaimed at a meeting of Ngati Whakaue hold at Tamatekapuaf ‘That this meeting of Arawa expresses its deepest regret that Sir Apirana Ngata has deemed it desirable to resign from the Cabinet, but desires to assure him that, notwithstanding any criticism which may appear in the commission’s report, he will always retain the unshakeable’ confidence and support of the Arawa tribe. Wc are all loyal to you as our leader. 'The Arawas will meet you when you arrive.”
