OLYMPIC SWIMMING CLUB
11TK ANNUAL REPORT IMPROVED PINANDES Despite the poor swimming season and other difficulties experienced during the past year, the eleventh annual report of the Olympic Amateur Surf and Swimming Club strikes a note of general satisfaction over the financial position of the club, The report, which is to he presented at the annual meeting to morrow night, states
“Your executive committee feels a great deal of satisfaction at the rapid improvement in the general financial position of the club. This has been brought about despite a very poor swimming season from both a weather and a carnival point of view and despite diminished revenue as a consequence. Our club nights also suffered severely owing to the weather. “Your committee has not been idle during the winter season and its aim has been to place the finances in a, move satisfactory position. This lias been done, and the future can now bo looked forward to with every prospect of success. MEMBERSHIP “At the beginning of the past season our membership stood at 259, but a number of uufinaucial members were written off during the year, thus reducing our roll number now to 210. No doubt due to the stringent times we have been passing through, causing a lot of unemployment on the otic hand and induced wages on the other hand, the number still unfmaneial is larger than it should be, and an earnest appeal is made to all members to meet their commitments as soon as possible. “The thanks of the club are due to our delegates on the Hawke’s Buy centre, Messrs. Atkinson and 'Rouse, to our carnival officials for their services during the year, to our hon. auditor, Mr. M. J. White, to the secretary of The Hawke’s Bay centre, Mr. Leilas, and to donors of trophies and donations. “Our club was again allotted two nights per week at the Macrae Bath. The Borough Council again should he requested to grant the club its usual club nights for the season 1934-35, and every endeavor should be made to foster these activities.
“The championships this year were notable for the success achieved by lhe following members of the club : —Miss Norma Henderson, and Misses McKnight (2). We hope to have these promising swimmers with us this year and extend to them our congratulations on their successes. FINANCE, “The accounts for the year show a small surplus, after writing down all our property and cups to a nominal figure. The trophy fund is, intact and there has been a very satisfactory reduction in sundry creditors. The worst feature is tho large amount of arrears outstanding and if every endeavor is made to induce payment, the position will he most gratifying. The future prospects of the club have certainly brightened up very considerably as a result of the untiring efforts of the outgoing committee, to whom the club’s thanks are due for the great improvement shown.”
