STILL INCREASING
NEW SHIPBUILDING ACTIVITY IN BRITAIN (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Oct. 17, noon) LONDON, Oct. 16. The tonnage of shipping under construction in Britain and Ireland at September 30, namely 604,296, was nearly doublo the amount at September 30, 1933. An upward tendency was also maintained abroad, with 707,091 tons, according to Lloyd’s Register, including Japan, 149,750 tons; France, 120,868 tons; Germany, 120,816 tons; Denmark, 74,938 tons; Holland, 70,735 tons; Italy, 37,970 tons; Sweden, 64,565 tons; and the United States, 22,225 tons. Motor ship world tonnage is 764,909, and oil tankers 324,712 tons.
