ENGINEER’S REPORT

WEATHER HELPS WORK Repair work on the Cook County roads has been helped recently by the weather, and in his report to .the council to-day, the county engineer, Mr. , tv. E. Gisbornc-Wairoa, via Hangaroa, main highway, reinforced concrete culvert at 19.2 mile: Tenders are being called shortly. Levelling at Tnruhcru Cemetery: The contractor has completed this work satisfactorily. Manutuko to Wairoa, via Mangapoilto Valley (Manutuke-Keay bridge section): Approval has nor yet been ioeeivod from the Public Works Department of the proposals submitted for reconstruction of two miles of this road. Probably the proposal to make this a highway is responsible for some delay. Gisborne-Wairoa, via Hangaroa main highway (Gentle Annie Hill), reconstruction and metalling of two miles: Proposals for this work have been approved by the Main Highways Board and it is proposed to call tenders at an early date. ‘ ‘ Gisborne-Wairoa, via Hangaroa main highway, (19 chains of top courso metalling from .11.22 mile to 12.08 mile; Proposals have been submitted to the Main Highways Board for approval. Reinforced concrete culvert at Quinn’s, 11.1 mile, Waimata Valley road: Proposals have been, submitted to the Public Works Department for approval. Gisborno-Opotiki, Via Motu, main highway, 8.85 mile to 11.35 mile, reconstruction and metal ling of 21 miles: Proposals have been submitted to the Main Highways Board for approval. Gisborne-Wairoa, via Hangaroa, main highway, 10.2 mile-11.2 mile, one mile of two-coat seal: Proposals have been submitted to the Alain Highways Board for approval. Pntutnhi-Rere main highway, reconstruction and metalling of .80,8 chains of Ngatapft Hill: Proposals have been forwarded to the Main Highways Board for approval. Patti-tahi-Rere main highway, reinforced concrete culvert at 5.7 mile: Proposals have been forwarded to -the Main Highways Board for, approval. , ‘‘Good progress is being made with) the plans for Mangataikchu Stream bridge, Ngakaroa road.
