NUHAKA NEWS

UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE (Hefald Correspondent.) The Nuhaka Unemployment Committee held its monthly meeting on Friday evening, at tho Dairy Company s office, those present being Messrs. L. Clough, chairman, K. B. Crombie, M. R. Shaw, J. Smith, J. Millar, certifying officer, and E. Tucker, secretary. An apology for absence was received from Mr. W. Tait, Morere. A deputation representing the Nuliaka and Waikokopu branches of the. Now Zealand Labor Party, waited on the committee, members of the deputation being Messrs. J! T. Begley, C. Jennings, P. O’Sullivan, O, Madden, T. Meta, H. Taylor, and M. West. The deputation made a number of complaints, particularly as to alleged victimisation of relief workers by a foreman. The deputation requested support in their demands for a sustenance scheme, as in operation in the larger centres. Another matter brought forward was the question of shorter’hours and wet time. A number of statements were made, the discussion becoming somewhat heated at times, but the chairman controlled the meeting in a tactful manner. Later in the evening the committee discussed the matters brought forward by the deputation. After a statement had been made by the foreman concerned the matter was not proceeded with, the committee considering it unnecessary to pursue it further. ,
