DIFFERENCE AT GOLF
SEQUEL IN THE COURT EPISODE AT HASTINGS Two Hastings residents were concerned in a ease called in the Hastings Magistrate’s Court before Mr. R, M. Watson, S.M. Oil the information of Henry Sydney Buttle Ribbands (Mr. Hallett), .Jack Alfred Donne (Mr. Rogers) was charged with assaulting complainant on August 17 by throwing him to the ground, and pushing him into a lake. Ribbands was charged with stealing on the same date a golf ball valued at 2s 6d, the property of Donne. The case arose from circumstances attending a game of golf at Beatson’s Park. Mr. Rogers asked for leave lo withdraw unreservedly the information on account of the fact that a settlement between the’parties had been reached. Mr. llallctt then asked for leave to withdraw the charge of assault, and Mr. Rogers rose to interject with the apparent purpose of seeking to persuade Mr. Hallett it was not necessary to discuss the matter any further. The magistrate: You want as little publicity as possible? Mr. Rogers: That is so. Mi. 1 [allot said that one of the conditions of the settlement between the parties was that when the. case was called in court it should be made known by counsel that Ribband’s withdrawal of liis complaint was conditional upon Donne’s withdrawal of the charge of theft. The magistrate gave leave to withdraw both informations.
