BULLET IN CHEST
CARRIED FOR 18 YEARS
If was recentlv reported from Sydney that a Turkish bullet had br-,u removed from the thigh of an Australian soldier 19 years after lie had received the wound. Following upon this an Otago man draws attention to his own experience in having a Turkish bullet removed from the interior wall of bis chest in June of last year, 18 years after lie was shot at Gallipoli. The Otago man, who was a member of tho Otago Regiment, was wounded oil August 7. 1915, and the bullet, remained lodged in hjs chest until after its position had been established by means of X-rny photographs. The very delicate operation that, resulted in its removal was carried out with eoinulete success by ft Dunedin surgeon at the public hospital. The. bullet has been retained by the man as a grim reminder of his unusual experience.
