PRINCE AND HIS FIANCEE

Arriving by train, Prince George and Princess Marina were immediately- surrounded by friends of Princess Marina’s family.
Prince George and his fiancee smilingly posed for 50 press photographers. The Prince leaves lor London to morrow in tlie Prince of Wales’ plane. Princess Marina is remaining in Paris for a few davs. ■
LAKE OF BLED
ROMANTIC INTEREST
Iri a deep mountain cleft- -of the Julian Alps lies the Lake of Bled, where Prince George was staying recently. 1 he district is one of the most romantically picturesque in the whole of the European Alpine region, and around the snores of the lake, members of the Yugoslavian Royal family have established their summer residences. During his visit to Yugoslavia Prince George is a guest at Queen Marie’s castle, of Suvobor, which stands embowered in trees on -the shores of the lake.
Royal patronage has given the town and districts of Bled an international social prestige, for here, when the court is in residence, diplomats and social leaders from all over Europe foregather: But social life is not Bled's only attraction. The climate is exceptionally mild, due to the proximity of the Adriatic Sea, and the fact that the waters of the lake arc comparative!) warm, a number of hot springs having their outlet into it. The district is rich in historic interest. In thu centre of the lake is an islet, on which, in pagan times, stood a sanctuary dedicated to the Slav goddess Ziva. St. Mary’s Chapel, which now occupies the site, was erected in the XVlltli century, and is still a place of pilgrimage. From its high tower the bell tolls almost without cessation, for legend has it that all who, in pious meditation, ascend the tower and ring the bell, shall have their prayers answered. Old Bled Castle, perched on a rock high above the lake, also its interest, and occupies the site of a Roman camp.
The family life of the Yugoslavian Royal family is described as simple and industrious, and as a guest in their summer homo Prince Georgt will have unsual opportunities for outdoor recreation and vest, free from formalities. Queen Marie, his present hostess, is described as an exemplary wife and mother, whose ideal is rational housekeeping. Pile is, also a keen and intrepid sportswoman, and accompanies her husband and guests on their hunting expeditions into the foothills of the Alps.
