OOONABARABRAN, N.ftAV., Aug. 28. Much interest was created here last night, when a unique election contest took place. Mr U. L; A. Abbott, M.P., the Country Party candidate for 'Gwvdir, was advertised to speak, 'but the Lang Iforty candidate, Mr Cummins, arrived ahead of Mr Abbott, amt immediately begun an address. Mr Abbott’s eotnmittee, however, comprised some expert wireless amateurs, and an impromptu loud speaker was installed upon his lorry. When this was turned on the effect; upon Mr Cummins’ audience was devastating. Mr Abbott’s supporters bestowed themselves in motor ears in John street, some of them 500yds. from 'the amplifiers where they listened in comfort. Mr Cummins gathered his supporters close around him .and citing tenaciously to his speech, Omt ivas in obvious," difficulties, as the intrusion of Mr Abbott. I ’* amplified voice 'upset some of bis best passages. Both sides claimed a win, but Mr Abbott’s supporters, insist that he came off much the better in the contest,‘because lie made his speech in extreme ease through tin 1 microphone, whereas Mir Cummins’ voice suffered verv considerably.
