DIFFICULT CONDITIONS

GROWERS’ CONFERENCE

WELLINGTON, this day.

The Fruitgrowers’ Federation conferionce was opened to,day by Mr. W. J. Poison, M.r., president of the Farmers’ Union. Addresses were also given hy Mr. H. J. Holvoake, M.F., and Mi’. H. M. Campbell, M.P. The federation president, Mr. T. C. Brash, who presided, said the present times were difficult, because of the lack of co-ordination between individuals and ;botweon nations. World planning was undoubtedly needed, but certainly not in the way of trade barriers. Primary producers in New Zealand could help bring about an improvement by establishing among themselves, a real co-operative ideal. He said that the financial position of the federation was steadily improving, Adequate provision had been made, for bad and doubtful debts, a.nd the directors had again decided to transfer tQ the credit of growers in the rebate accounts 50 per cent, of the net profit.
