Tho New Zealand Standards Institute is completing its arrangements for the preparation of the code, which, it approved; bV the Government, will govern the construction of building ear iquake resisting lines throughout New Zealand A special building committee, with its technical committee and bylaw panel, has been established, and is now functioning in Wellington. It. is expected that the report which the Govemmettt has. asked! ®r, which will. embody the proposed code, Will be ready within the next few months. If the irovernment approves of the code, it will becomA legislation as soon as possible. In Christchurch steady progress is being made with the organisation of public- utilities in such a way that the city Will be well prepared for any emergency*’ arising from rut esrthcfw&ke> and li is expected that in two or three j»onth«r all details will be worked out and the scheme completed.—Breus.
