Mr. James Kilgour Hannah, a retired banker, has died at Duneclin. Jflc was manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Eketahuna and Picton before his retirement.

Mrs Dwyer was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robert .Forsyth, of Apotu, who came to New Zealand in the ship Silver Engle about .1854 and settled in that district.

By the death of Mr Thomas Maemahen, which occurred ,at his residence, Riwaka, recently, the district loses one of its most highly Tespected residents and one of its outstanding personalities, reports the Nelson Mail. The death of Mr Matthew Stuart Holmes at Dunedin, in his seventyninth year, has removed a ’prominent figure from the pastoral industry in the South Island. His father arrived in Now Zealand in 1859 and was for a time manager of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, for which he acquired very large holdings throughout the South Island. Mr Stuart Holmes inherited in a large degree the rural instincts of his forbear. He went to Australia and joined Messrs, Dalgety and Company, entering the firm's wool department in Sydney. On returning to New Zealand, he carried on high-class farming a: Kaknnui, where he raised fat stock of prime quality. Ho later purchased Clover Hill, Palmerston.
