P.B. COMPETITIONS THURSDAY MATCHES The Poverty Bay Basketball Associa t, ion’s Thursday competition matches were continued* last week with the following results: — A Grade—ll.S.O.G. (A) 19 defeated Athletic A 8. Cash Stores A defaulted to Tui. St, Alary’s S.S. (A) 22 defeated St. Mary’s S.S. (B) 6. Marathons 16 beat Huia 13. B Grade— Athletic. U defaulted to 11.5.0. G. (B) McKenzie's 13 defeated St, Mary s S.S. (C). V.M.C.A. defaulted to St. Marys O.G. Cash Stores B defaulted to. Harriers. In the match between 11.5.0. G. and Athletic the play was very ragged, and both teams showed poor combination. In the Old Girls’ goal third many opportunities were lost through the forwards not. passing out, and also holding the hall too long before getting rid of it. The Athletic forwards showed promise of good combination, but were inclined to run with the ball. In the second spell the 11.5.0. G. combination was much improved, and the forwards were more accurate at shooting. St. Mary’s S.S. (A), v. St. Mary’s S.S. (B), was a very one-sided game. Tim former showed more experience than their opponents, and their passing and shooting were faster and more accurate.' The game could' have been tar more interesting had the players put their minds on the game. The match between between Huia and .Marathons was the most interesting of the afternoon. Huia took the field with six players, and put up a very hard game against Marathons. The Huia forwards and defence played very soundly, while the Marathon forwards were very accurate at the gad Another very onc-sifled game was that of McKenzie’s v. St. Mary’s S.S. (C). McKenzie's were the more experienced team, and' their combination’ showed great improvement. St. .Mary’s S.S. (C) were apt to throw wildly, thus giving many chances away. Their forwards were handicapped by lack of height.
