“Apropos of ‘mean smokers’,” writes "Cigarette,” in a Southern Daily, “I know several chaps who never buy tobacco if they can cadge it. I used to be had that way once, hut ‘experientia docet.’ I keep two pouches now. One contains my favorite blend, Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), the other one of the imitations of that inimitable brand —awful stuff, chock-a-block with nicotine and warranted to kill at 40 yards. When a cadger wants a fill (explaining that, lie’s left his tobacco in his other coat pocket or something), I cheerfully chuck over the imitation article —which of course isn’t toasted at all —and he seldom troubles me again. Cadgers are generally good judges of baccy, they sample so many brands! I’m always glad to give a decent sort a pipeful, but I can’t stand meanness,” There are, by the way, only five brands of the real toasted—Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Riverhend Gold, and j Desert Gold. They’re certainly too l good to give away to "cadgers.”*
