P.B. UNION AFFAIRS WEEKLY COMMITTEE MEETING The Poverty Bay Rugby Union’s management committee hold its weekly meeting la.-4- evening, tho list, of business being a short one', with the visits of the Poverty Bay representative team to the Coast and the Wairon. colt.s’ visit to Gisborne, both on Saturday next, ns the principal topics of discussion.

There, were present at, the meeting Messrs. G. 11. Reeats, chairman, G. J. Jeune, O. S. Burt, W. V. Piesse, P. C. Edmondson, W. R. McKee, lion, secretary, and Bro. Gteph'en. Correspondence was received from the Wairoa sub-union’s committee, thanking the Poverty Bay union for the hospitality extended to tiie ’Wairoa, representative leant on its recent visit to Gisborne; from the East Coast union, relative 1o the match to be played at Tiki tiki on .Saturday next; and from clubs relating to injuries to players. The latter group of letters was referred to the insurance committee. The committee asked the. secretary to convey to the managements of the Regent and King’s theatres its thanks for entertainment afforded to visiting teams during recent -weeks. ORDERING OFF OF PLAYERS A report was received from Mr. Hunter, referee of (he Old Boys-Maris-t senior match on Saturday, regarding the ordering off of two players, one of each team. The action of the referee was due -to the men grappling together on a ground for a period that attracted attention, though tho referee stated that lie saw no blows struck. T. Munro, one of the players ordered off, was- in attendance, and stated that he and W. Matheson, the other player, had had a “little argument,” and had got into holds on the ground. Matheson did not appear before the committee. Air. P. C. Edmondson suggested that the affair might be treated as trivial, as no harm was done to either player. Any penalty inflicted at this stage of the season would carry little weight, he thought. Air. Burt and Bro. Stephen held that it would be bad for the discipline of the teams in all grades if no penalty were imposed on two senior players. The chairman agreed with this view, holding that the committee must take notice of such breaches, for the benefit of tho game, the players and the public. On Mr. June’s nl&tion, is was decided to suspend the two players for the remainder of the season, and to caution both that the offence would be boruc in mind in the event of a recurrence of trouble next season. For the visit of the Poverty Bay representative team to Tikitiki on Saturday, for the game with East Coast, Air. G. J. Jeune was appointed manager. Three names of available referees were submitted by the East Coast union and the manager of the Poverty Bay team was asked to make an early choice and advise the Coast union. It was decided to assemble tho team at 7.30 a.m. on Saturday for departure to the Coast. COLTS AT THE OVAL The return match between the Wairoa and Poverty Bay colts’ teams, which is to be played at the Oval, will be the principal local attraction for football enthusiasts on Saturday, and prices for admission were fixed on the usual scale for club matches. Marist v. Celtic juniors will provide the curtain-raiser match for the colts’ fixture. Op the motion of Mr. Burt, it was decided to write to the Auckland Rugby Union, thanking that body for sending its representative team to Gisborne, and congratulating tho Aucklanders on their success in the Ranfuiiy Shield match. The matter of entering a challenge for the shield for next season was held over for consideration later.
