KEEN INTEREST SHOWN
READING OF THE BUDGET APPLAUSE FOR MINISTER (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Interest in the Budget was evinced by large queues that formed outside . the House of Representatives some time before 7.30 pin. and by the time the Minister of Finance, tlie Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, commenced to read the Budget, all the galleries except that reserved for Legislative Councillors, were crowded. Some 65 members were in their seats. The Minister was followed attentively throughout tho reading, which occupied an hour and a-quarter. lie was subject to a few interjections from the Labor benches, most- of which lie ignored.
At the conclusion, Mr. Coates was heartily applauded, and . the House rose at 8.55 p.m. unable to finance the whole of the cost themselves the Unemployment Hoard, to enable tho work to proceed, has come to their assistance by subsidising the wages of relief workers on the understanding that, they aro employed for a full week at standard rates of pay- '
