ELECTOR TO BE CO-OPTED
A decision to fill the vacancy on the Masterton. Borough Council , caused byj the death of tbe late Mr. H. J, ’O’Leary, by co-opting a qualified elector, has been reached at h meeting of the council. The new councillor will hold office until next May, when the first of the triennial local body elections will be! held. , ! Under a. comparatively new clause in. the Municipal Corporations Act it is now within the power of the council to adopt the course ’decided upon in preference to an brdihary election. Councillors Were of the opinion that the expense of; an election should be obviated if pos- 1 sible.
