ROBBERY ALLEGED

A vivid story of a rcfbbfejy alleged to have occurred ai tho. rear, of the Chief Post Office late on Thursday night was {old by a seaman, David Hook, in the Police Court this morning when William Keogh, 52, a seaman, and Robert Reidy, 44,. a tailor, were each charged with robbing him of £lO 15s after using personal violence. Hook sails in the Huia 6ii Monday and so his evidence was fakfen on deposition this morning. Hook said that hi response to a telegram he left his lodgings, at 10.30 for tire Post Office to send money to a friend in Lyttelton. He had two £5 notes and 15s in silver. He met Reidy, whom he had known for five years, and told him that he was telegraphing the. money. The latter suggested a visit to a hotel, four other men accompanying them. Admission to the hotel was refused, after which Reidy accompanied complainant to the Post* Office. There Keogh came up and gave complainant two blows on the jaw. Keogh said to Reidy: “Rat him, Bob, I’ll watch him.” Reidy put his hand complainant’s pockets, extracting the money, and said to Keogh: “Right.” Keogh said: ‘‘Run.” Witness identified Keogh at a parade. The hearing was then adjourned. The magistrate, Mr. McKean, refused bail for Keogh, remarking that had lie heard the facts yesterday lie might not have allowed Reidy bail.
