Mr. and Mrs. V. T. C. Savage, Gisborne, were recent visitors to Wellington .
An engagement is announced between Bruce, third son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Gilbertson, Havelock North, and Margaret Alice, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Allan, Kaitangata, Otago. Mr.. F. A. d'e Tonrettes, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Westport since 1923, is retiring on superannuation. He will be succeeded as manager by Mr C. W. Garvey, accountant at the Oamaru branch of the bank.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received advice front their head office that Mr John Macmillan, managing director of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Limited, has accepted it seat on the board of directors of the company, in the place of the late Mr S. ft, L'ivingStone-Learmontli. ’Air. Enos Holloway, of Morrinsville, who celebrated' his ninety-seventh birthday <m Wednesday, has been the recipient of tt congratulatory telegram from the Governor-General. Mr Holloway was horn in Bristol, his father being a contractor for the erection of flic Great Western Railway, from Exeter to Bristol. lie came in New Zealand in 1860.
Mr Kenneth Mel.eay, wlm has hern resident in Wellington tor some years, celebrated In's ninety-first birthday on Monday. Mr Mel.eay was horn on duly 30. 1843, at Dingwf|U, Scotland, and arrived at Bluff in September, 1862, in the Aberdeen clipper Robert Henderson. Most of Mr M< Leav's life has been spent in the gohllields of Central Otago iri the vicinity of Arrmvtown.
