NEW WOOL PROCESS
BRITISH DISCOVERY MATER IAL I IMPROVED CHEAPER PRODUCTION (British Official Wireless.) Bee. noon. RUGBY, August 1. A secret process whereby the quality of British textile products will be improved, and the costs of production lowered, has been evolved after extensive experiments in the use of ionised oils by the Wool Industries’ Research Association, in place of the present treatment of raw wool, which is first scoured with alkali and then softened with olive oil, and then again scoured to remove the oil. The new ionised oils will both scour and soften, and can afterwards be removed by washing. The wool thus treated is much whiter “and softer than that produced by the old method. The new oils can also be effectively used for hemp, jute, and other vegetable fibres, and the development is considered likely to prove of extensive value in the preparation of many Empire products which at present are of little value. A large factory capable of producing ionised oils on a commercial scale has just been opened near London.
