NEW ZEALAND’S TEAM ATHLETES' DIFFICULTIES (Received Aug. 2. 11 a.ni.) LONDON, Aug. 1. .T. E. Lovelock is in splendid fettle, but the two other members of the New Zealand Empire Games team have had troubles on the cinder tracks. Brainsby is suffering from shin soreness, but hopes to be fit when he jumps. Broadway, after impressive early form, is dissatisfied with his more recent efforts, so at Dr. Porritt’s direction he will refrain from further trials before the games. Grose is cycling in fine trim. Whareaitu, who is blessed with a ■placid disposition, is showing the most impressive form',among the swimmers, while Crump is shaping well. Smith, however, has not reproduced his. New Zealand form. If he regains touch, the New Zealand trio should have an excellent chance in the medley swim. RECEPTION BY PRINCE (British Official Wireless.) Bee. 10 a.in. RUGBY. Aug. 1. Over 300 men and women athletes who have come to Britain for the Empire Games were received by the Brined of Wales at St. dames’ Palace. The Prince iirst received the captains of the various teams and chatted with many of them. Afterwards, all tlit' 300 visitors tiled past him, and the J’riiieq shook hands with them all.
