» ——• CHANCE IN CONTROL (Per Pross Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. As a result of Hie appo.intment of Mr. \V. Stewart to the position of Valuer-General, the Minister of Lands, the lion. ; FJ. A. Ransom, stated to-day that it had been decided to make an alteration in the practice of appointing one officer to the. dual position of Commissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor. The functions of the various lands offices had changed considerably in recent years, and the alteration 'being given' effect to would make for more efficient administration of the work of the department throughout the Dominion. He said that a further alteration would involve no increase in the staff of the department.
