YOUTH OF AMERICA
ROOSEVELT SUPPORTED However much controversy may rago around the Roosevelt policy in the United States, the youth of America, and particularly the young men of the universities and colleges, form a solid backing for the President. This statement was made by Mr. Robert K. Burns, an economics student of the University of Washington, who has arrived at Auckland to take part in debating contests with students from New Zealand university colleges. The young university men in the United States have been hit by the depression as hard as anyone, Mr. Burns said. They were educated and prepared for their work in life, only to find that for the majority of them no work was offering. They demanded a new social and democratic order, and they welcomed Mr. Roosevelt because his administration was shaped toward that end. It was not right that, young men should graduate from college to the bread line.
