PUKEKOHE CONDITIONS The Mayor of Pukekoho, Mr- Johu Routly, lias drawn the Borough Co mini l’s attention to the conditions , under which Maoris are living in the borough. Mr. O. T. Purvin said that Maoris were living in sack huts and other crude dwellings, which, during winter months especially, were decidedly detrimental to their health. Numerous eases of tuberculosis were reported, and the Maoris, oil being taken to tlio Auckland Hospital, became a charge on the general ratepayer. Mr. Routly declared that the Maoris in the district received no consideration from the Government departments. A sum of approximately £.18,000 was spent cm the Waitangi celebrations, and Cabinet Ministers bad commented very favorably upon the expenditure. Wlmt ho would like to know was what tho Cabinet Ministers intended to do for the Pukekoho Maoris? They could not be left to live in sack huts. The clerk, Mr. S. Bish, was directed to write to tho Minister of Native Affairs and to Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P
