EXCHANGE POLICY

AN ASSURANCE WANTED “Most of llio business people in Australia are banking on the expectation that high exchange between the Commonwealth and Great Britain will continue for some time,” said Mr. H. E. Pacey. a director of Joseph Nathan and Company, on his return to Wellington from Sydney. “It is thought inconceivable that the. authorities will reduce tho exchange rate while the primary producers are in such real distress. The Australians are interested to know 1 what New Zealand’s policy will be in regard to exchange. I am of opinion that the high exchange policy should be continued in the Dominion for some time, and that the Government should give an assurance mi the subject for n period to he defined. The uncertainty on the <]noslion is a sourCe of bewilderment and embarrassment both to exporters and importers.”
