EXCHANGE INCREASE

FRUITGROWERS BENEFIT 1 “I think all fruitgrowers will realise the value of the high exchange rate to the well-being of the fruit industry,” said Mr. K. W. Holyoake, M.P., at Nelson. Mr. Holyoake stated that with the exchange at par, the grower at present prices would receive a return of Id a case; at the 19 per cent, rate, as it was before the increase in January last year, he would receive 8.55 d, and with the rate at 25 per cent., Is 2.92 d. “That shows what the exchange rate moans to the fruit and primary producers,’’ he said. “It is a temporary measure to meet the crisis and tide over these difficult years.” The Nelson fruitgrowers have decided to ship the millionth case of export fruit this season to Lord Rutherford, of Nelson.
