BAN ON RODEOS
BRITISH LEGISLATION PRIVATE MEMBER’S BILL (Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received May 17, 3 p.m.) LONDON, May 16. Owing to a report that another Ameri-cau-Canadian rodeo is being produced at White City shortly, a private member’s Protection of Animals Bill was hurriedly passed by the House of Commons, which has utilised procedure used only twice in 100 years. The bill makes illegal certain incidents, shell as steer-wrestling and calf-roping, witnessed in earlier periods. The House of Lords co-operated in the quick passage of the measure. ‘ ‘ REPULSIVELY CRUEL ’ ’ LONDON, April 13. All sides of the House of Commons agreed this afternoon some aspects of a “wild west” rodeo were “repulsively cruel” and Tun-iElnglish,”' when the House unanimously gave second reading to a private bill to prevent contests in connection with rodeos. Sponsors of the bill explained that they wanted quick approval as a foreign rodeo was being staged in Londoti in June. Most of the discussion centred oil tho rodeo seen during the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley some years ago. A Government spokesman said the Iheasure would have sympathetic consideration so long-as it had received a second reading.
