Micro-Wave Set

THE wireless industry is waiting for the results of Marconi’s experiments in micro-wavo research, which promise great advances in certain phases of wireless transmission and reception. A micro-wave equipment has been designed and made in Australia by Amalgamated Wireless (A/sift), Limited. As soon as the research work has been completed, the company will be able to make use of this discovery in establishing new communication services, and to improve television and broadcasting. Tho micro-wave is not affected by fog. For ordinary broadcasting the wavelength used ranges from 200 to 550 metres; there are also the short waves, from 5 to .100 metres, which are used by broadcasting stations for Oversea transmissions, but the micro-wave apparatus ,on exhibition by A.W.A. at Melbourne Radio Show has a wavelength of 50 centimetres. Such a wavelength has a frequency of 000,000 cycles a second, as compared with frequencies, ranging from about 535,000 to 1,500,000, as are utilised in the ordinary broadcasting stations, It has been found that with an aerial and reflector system of very small dimensions, the use. of such a short wave allows tho concentration of the energy radiated into a very narrow beam.
