On Monday afternoon the Parish Hall resembled a well-stocked shop, when members of the Women’s Institute, the Ladies’ Guild, and other friends gathered in good number to show in a practical manner their sympathy with Mrs. Kelly, who was burned out last week. Everyone brought a parcel, and a good consignment had been sent from the Tokomaru Bay Women’s Institute by their representative, Mrs. Nathan. Community singing was enjoyed, and vocal items were rendered by Mesdames G. W. King and Nathan, while Mrs. Thornton and Miss Moore contributed pianoforte items, Miss Moore also playing the accompaniments. Mrs. Walker recited a touching little item, which was much appreciated. A delightful tea was served By the ladies, after which the parcels were packed and dispatched, with many messages of sympathy, to Mrs. Kelly. On Saturday the Rugby' football ’at Tolaga Bay was between Hauiti and Country, and resulted in a win for the former by 5 to 3, after a good, bard game. There was no score at half-time, but this was speedily altered when Crawford secured a try, which was unconverted. Hauiti then scored a good try, being annexed by Pom Kutia and converted by R. McLean. Hauiti’s backline kicking was very good, and Country’s forward line work was outstanding. A country player .was ordered off. Mr. S. M. Kemp was referee. The junior game which was to have been played between Hauiti and City did not eventuate, the former being unable to muster a team, and the latter being awarded points for a forfeit.
