Although the 'Government has taken over the powers previously •' exercised by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board' in negotiating"with' the British Oovermnent. the hoard stiff retains its ’ordinary powers and continues to function in the visual way, according to the Prime Minister, the Jit. Hon. G. W. Forbes, in "a statement hie made nightMr Forbes referred to the recent ennounceinent that the hoard intends to proceed with the new marketing regulations, to come into operation on March 1, and said that some doubt as to the board's intentions had arisen in. the export trade in' view of the Government’s assumption of the responsibility for tho dairy problem, and the appointment of the Royal Commission. Mr Forbes said that the Government had not abolished the powers of the Hairy Board, except in negotiations'\with' Britain.- (' Previously, the Government had accepted the views of tho . hoard in regard to such hegotiatidns, hut it had .been decided that iriatters affecting the nation at large should he* dealt with by the Cabinet. In the meantime the board’s ordinary powers would continue. The Royal Commission would probably report on tho control of dairying and it might recommend amending legislation. The position of the board would then he reconsidered;
