GISBORNE HIGH SCHOOL

OLD STUDENTS’ ASSOOIATION ANNUAL MEETING iiie annual meeting of the Gisborne iligh School Old Students’ Association was held last night at the “Mary Elizabeth,'’ Mr. F. W. Nolan presiding over a fair attendance. Tlie secretary, Mr. R. B. Pearson, presented the annual report (published in yesterday’s issue) and the balance sheet. In ni-iving their adoption, the chairman said he was pleased to see the increase in membership, which totalled 110. He thought that the association should not be satisfied with this number, however, as the school roll averaged about 400 annually and the great majority of those who left school every year did not jom the association. He emphasised the advantage of having new blood in the association, as this would keep it in touch with the school and its activities. He recommended them to continue their efforts to secure new members.

Discussing the balance-sheet, Mr Nolan said that the payments totalled £4l 6s, and the association had ended the year with £154 5s lid in hand, which was approximately £l4 less than the previous year. The bulk of the payments went to the school reference library. Hitherto the school had labored under a disadvantage by having a poor library, but as a result of last year’s campaign they had created the nucleus of a fine library. He was confident that the association was helping the school in the finest way possible. In conclusion, he congratulated the retiring officers on a successful year and expressed the hope that they would have another good one. Mr. Rees Allan pointed out that when the returns were received from the Whatatutu branch the receipts should equal those of the previous year.

Mr Wilfrid Kohn seconded the motion, which was carried without further discussion. The. election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr J. Hutton; president, Mr F. \V. Nolan; vice-presidents, Messrs. If.
