LOAN CONSOLIDATION

CHRISTCHURCH SCHEME BUSINESS MEN’S PROTEST (Per Presß Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. An emphatic protest was made by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce against proposals which have been under the consideration of the City Council for the consolidation of all special loans as part of a conversion scheme. The chamber states that the council s proposal for the consolidation or amalgamation of all special loans and rates within the area of the city, with a view to the conversion of rates of interest to the statutory rate, is alarming in view of ,the possibility of this amalgamation resulting in large increases in the amount of the. annual special rates payable by residents and business people in certain areas, notably the central area.
