The monthly meeting of the MakarakaMatawhero Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday, tlie president, . Mrs. Livingston, presiding over a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the singing of the institute ode, after which several visitors wa*e welcomed. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Reece, Jonnasen* Mclntosh and Miss O’Connell. Mrs. 11. Lange, delegate to the Women’s Institute council meeting, read her report, which proved to be a most interesting one and was much appreciated by all present. She added that she regretted that every Women’s Institute member had not been able to hear Mrs. Kelso’s helpful and instructive address. The hall committee's report and balance sheet were read and adopted. Fli'nal (arrangement* were made with regard to the visit to the Waimata Women’s Institute on May 10. Each member was requested to wear the institute badge, with name attached. The president proposed that a book exchange and a suggestion box be started. She urged members to patronise the trades table. It was also agreed to start the monthly meeting at 1.30 p.m., instead of 2 p.m., to enable members to get home earlier. The results of the competitions were as follow Knitted singlet: Miss Spatt, 1; Mrs. Smith, 2; Mrs. Burt, 3. Plate of gems: Mrs. Weastell, {; Mrs. Hammond, 2; Mrs. O’Meara, 3. After the tea adjournment Mrs. Read gave a demonstration of Imuquet making, which was followed most keenly by all, and she gave many useful hints. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mi's. Read for her interesting demonstration. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
