(Received May 2, noon) ' BERLIN, May 1. “No matter whether they love or hate us, nobody can deny that we have awakened the German people and given them a new spirit and a new way ot life, said Herr Hitler, addressing 2,000,000 persons gathered at the Tempelhoferfeld, and also broadcast throughout Germany on May Day, which is the anniversary of the introduction oi the four-year plan. He added: “We can proudly say that the year has shown unparalleled develop, ment. After 15 years of despair, Germans now stand on firm ground. If the world denies our love of peace, we cannot reply better than by comparing the small territory with which Germans are content with others’ vast territories. “Germany docs not want war,, because she does not need it. Germans are. capable of shaping their life tolerably without wars of robbery. We do not want revenge or conquest. We are willing to stretch out a conciliatory hand, but we must have equality of rights for self-defence.” . , Herr Hitler claimed that the Nazis fight against the trade unions had saved the nation hundreds of millions of marks in strikes and lock-outs, and welded employers and workers into a true community. Hen* Hitler’s speech was preceded by processions of all types of workers and employers marching to the Tempelholer to the music of thousands of brass bands. Captain Goering, in a Storm Trooper s uniform, marched at the head of one procession, beaming at shouts of “Hail Goering, our Iron Hermann.” with which he was received. The Tempelhofev was crowded by noon, after which the time until Herr Hitler’s speecli in the afternoon was occupied by an aerial display.
