RUATOEIA SEASON l WINS FOR CITY TEAMS (Herald Correspondent.) The Ruatoria football season is going to prove interesting and exciting as all the teams that have played so far have proved very even and last Saturday’s matches were no exception. The City juniors were just able to defeat the United juniors in a hard game, by 5 to nil. The referee was Mr. N. Poananga. The City seniors, under the leadership of W. Negan, beat the United seniors, under L. Whangaperite, by 3 to nil after another interesting game. Mr. D. Kawhai was the referee. Shortly after the commencement of the game, City were awarded a free kick, which, taken by N. Tuheu, was successful. —City 3, United nil.
City maintained the attack, and United were compelled to force, after which play was very even. United then advanced and City were hal'd put to it to prevent a score. City eventually cleared and returned to the attack, keeping play in United’s twenty-five. Play was in this section when halftime was called.
On resuming, City continued the attack and kept United very busy defending, but owing to United’s fullback, City were unable to add to their score. United then commenced a rush which was only checked when a free kick was given against them and this, taken by N. Tuhou, just failed. This gave City the required respite and they immediately returned to the attack, which was maintained until the game was finished. The only flaw in the game, which, although hard, was the tendency for one or two players to be rough. BOUNDARIES FIXED A special general meeting of the Ruatoria Rugby Sub-Union was held on Saturday night to discuss a notice of motion that the boundaries be definitely fixed between the clubs. Those present were Messrs. H. T. Reedy, chairman. C. Wilkie, N. Poananga, P. Whaipooti, 0. T. Evans, M. King, S. J. Strong, B. Reedy, N. Ngarimu, 1). Doherty, and A. W. Kirk. After considerable discussion the boundaries were definitely settled. The management committee also met, and it was decided that the players who had a stand down day should be admitted free on that day, the number of tickets to be issued to be 34, allowing for 17 seniors and 17 juniors, but this only on condition that the members were financial. The fixtures were made for the second round of the competition and these were left in the same order as the first.
