LECTURE EXPERIMENTS LONDON, March 11. Lord Rutherford delivered part of his lecture on “Radioactivity” at tho Royal Institution, in a whisper. • The explanation was the oxtremo sensitivity of one of the instruments he was using. Every time he raised his voice above a whisper tho instrument sot up a violent ticking. Even Lord Rutherford’s whispers caused slight ticking, and most, of tho experiment had to be conducted in dead silence. The experiment, demonstrated that the same remarkable noise could bo produced by the proximity to the instrument of a radioactive substance in certain circumstanced.
